
Brunel University London invites applications for ESRC-funded doctoral studentships in Health and Wellbeing through the Grand Union Doctoral Training Partnership (GUDTP). The GUDTP is a collaborative initiative involving Brunel University London, the University of Oxford, and the Open University, offering doctoral researchers access to high-quality, innovative social science research training across all three institutions. Doctoral students in Health and Wellbeing at Brunel will be members of the GUDTP Health and Wellbeing Pathway, led by Brunel and delivered collaboratively by the three partner universities. Doctoral researchers undertaking Health and Wellbeing studies at Brunel will be based within the relevant subject area. The Pathway supports research across a broad range of pressing national and global health and wellbeing challenges, providing opportunities to work with leading interdisciplinary research teams. Areas of expertise include, but are not limited to:
- Lifestyle behaviours and health and wellbeing inequalities
- Sport, physical activity, health and wellbeing
- Health and wellbeing across the life course, including youth and older age
- Psychology, health and wellbeing
- Gender, sexual health, and violence prevention
- Healthcare and occupational therapy
- Health economics
- Digital health

Studentships are offered as either three-year (+3) or four-year awards, depending on prior research training, and are available on a full-time or part-time basis to both UK and international applicants. Full-time award holders will receive an annual maintenance stipend of approximately ยฃ22,780 (2025/26 UKRI rate), paid monthly in advance for the duration of the award (three to four years), in addition to tuition fees at the current UKRI rate. Part-time awards will be funded on a pro rata basis over six to eight years.
